Specialist social work practice in mental health, mental capacity and the NHS
Monday 14 March 2022, 3pm to 4pm
A discussion about specialist social work practice in mental health, mental capacity and the NHS, led by our policy manager Paul Peros, National Advisory Forum member Isaac Samuels and Karen Cook who has many years’ experience working in mental health services as a social worker.
2022 will see new standards for approved mental health professional courses and the adoption of a new legal framework around mental capacity. In this session we’ll look at the approved mental health professional, best interests assessors and approved mental capacity professional roles that social workers, together with other partner professions, can hold and how we’re looking to support these roles as a regulator.
We’ll consider how social work influences these multi-professional specialisms, and what social workers bring to them and to the wider mental capacity and mental health sectors. Also, we consider what do they mean to people who are supported by specialist practitioners?
