Social work students in England have the opportunity to share their views with Social Work England at a workshop on 20 April. The interactive session will focus on the knowledge, skills and behaviours that students think they should be able to demonstrate upon graduating.
Date: Thursday 20 April 2023
Time: 3pm to 4.30pm
Venue: Online via Teams
Cost: Free
As the regulator for all social workers and higher education social work courses in England, Social Work England wants to make sure that all graduates are ready to join the social work register and can practise safely and consistently.
It is developing ‘readiness for professional practice’ guidance for all course providers in the country and wants to know what students think should be included. The guidance will set out the knowledge, skills and behaviours that students need to demonstrate in order to practice safely and effectively. It will eventually be used in the regulation of course providers.
Social Work England is keen to increase its engagement with students and is holding the interactive session as part of its approach to social work education and training.
Who should attend?
The workshop is aimed at all students / apprentices who are on higher education pre-registration social work courses in England. This includes:
- undergraduate and postgraduate degrees
- diplomas
- social work apprenticeships
- fast track courses
The workshop will:
- examine and explain what knowledge, skills and behaviours are and what was learnt from the consultation on readiness for professional practice
- explore students’ views on knowledge, skills and behaviours
- offer an opportunity to get involved in planning the next steps
- offer a chance to put questions to Social Work England
Before they attend, students are encouraged to read (both of the following):
- the draft knowledge, skills and behaviours statements which we consulted on
- the response from our initial consultation
Booking for the workshop is essential and should be done on Eventbrite.
