We're consulting on new education and training approval standards for courses leading to the specialist award of best interests assessor (BIA). A BIA is responsible for undertaking an assessment related to implementing the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS).
The standards we are consulting on set out our expectations for what courses need to do to be sure those who qualify from them can practise safely and effectively as a BIA.
We want you to have your say on all aspects of the way we operate and how we regulate the social work profession.
These standards do not apply to individual BIAs. These standards are for the providers of BIA training and education courses.
There are 2 ways you can participate in the consultation:
- complete the online survey feedback for the consultation
- respond via email to consultation.responses@socialworkengland.org.uk with ‘BIA consultation’ as the email subject
If you need any reasonable adjustments to help you respond, please contact us at consultation.responses@socialworkengland.org.uk.
The consultation period is 10 weeks and will end on Thursday 26 October at midday (12pm).
