A statement on the Wood Green stabbing

Like many others across the profession, we were saddened to hear of the attack on a social worker in Wood Green on Friday evening.

Working alongside health and social care colleagues, social workers are at the forefront of keeping others safe. They face difficult and challenging circumstances daily, whilst offering support to millions of people when they need it the most.

This is a shocking incident, and our thoughts are with the social worker, his family and friends, and colleagues in the police who were also involved. We are relieved to hear that everyone is now on their way to recovery.

The contribution of social workers is essential to society, and we thank all social workers for everything they do. Through our approach to regulation, we will continue to highlight the challenging work that social workers do, in all contexts, through sharing experiences across the sector and through conversations with our partners as we work to enable positive change.
