Annual report and accounts 2020 to 2021

Our annual report and accounts highlights our first year as the new regulator for social work in England.

Annual report and accounts 2020 to 2021

Our annual report and accounts sets out the successes and challenges of our first full year of operation. Over the year, we have been focused on delivering our 3-year corporate strategy, whilst laying the foundations for delivering radically different regulation for social work. We’ve had to meet our ambitious targets against the backdrop of the global COVID-19 pandemic and the UK’s exit from the European Union.

As of 31 March 2021, there were 96,315 social workers on the register. The impact of the pandemic has been incredibly challenging, and the profession has showcased great resilience. We are proud of everyone who has worked tirelessly to make sure that support continued for people when they needed it the most.

Looking back on the last year, it is difficult to think of anything other than the impact of COVID-19 on all our lives. It has been an especially challenging year for everyone in social work, impacting the work we do and the way we do it. Despite this, there has been progress and success, and the past 12 months showcased the great resilience of all who work in health and social care. We are proud of everyone that has quickly adapted and continued to provide support to people when they need it the most.
