Annual report and accounts 2019 to 2020

Our annual report and accounts highlights our journey to become the new regulator for social work in England. The focus of our activity up until 2 December 2019 was on ensuring we had everything in place for the safe and effective transfer of the regulation of social workers in England from the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) to Social Work England.

There were 98,637 social workers on the register as at 31 March 2020. Using powers provided to us by Parliament in the Coronavirus Act we have also temporarily reinstated the registration of 8,128 former social workers so that they can help fill vital roles across England and support the national effort in tackling the coronavirus pandemic.
