How the National Advisory Forum works
Last updated: 8 April 2025
Our National Advisory Forum provides expert advice, support and challenge to our work and how we achieve our objectives.
The forum (does all of the following):
- acts as a critical friend, providing feedback and guidance on development and engagement
- advises on how we should engage with people who have an interest in social work
- works together to develop projects and sub-groups, for example with other Social Work England advisory groups
- makes recommendations to our senior and executive leadership teams about our impact on the social work sector
- champions our work and support us in promoting our role and benefit to the sector
The forum collaborates with us on different areas of work. For example (all of the following):
- co-designing and co-delivering Social Work Week
- developing media campaigns such as Change the Script
- co-designing publications such as our 'Social work in England: State of the nation' report
- some members also sit on our Education and Training Advisory Forum

We are aware that the National Advisory Forum cannot represent everyone with an interest in social work. For this reason, the forum reaches out to relevant people on specific pieces of work where wider participation is needed.
